9:33 p.m. ET: And it’s halftime: New Jersey leads Michigan, 10-6. The Generals led the Panthers in total yardage after the first half, 165 yards to 49. Michigan fell 17-0 at halftime in last week’s game against Houston and came close to coming back for the win.

8:47 p.m. ET: Panthers safety Orion Stewart intercepts Perez’s pass. Michigan’s offense capitalizes, scoring three plays later. Running back Cameron Scarlett rushes from four yards down the middle for the touchdown.

The second week of USFL action begins Friday night with the Michigan Panthers taking on the New Jersey Generals. Both teams are 0-1 after losing their opener, with the Panthers losing 17-12 to the Houston Gamblers and the Generals losing 28-24 to the Birmingham Stallions. Michigan running back Stevie Scott led the Panthers in rushing and rushing yards, scoring the team’s only rushing touchdown. Meanwhile, New Jersey’s top offensive producer was wide receiver Randy Satterfield. He leads the league in receiving yards after Week 1 with 100 yards and one touchdown on five catches.
The winner of this game will become the first Northern Division team to win a game this season after a four-game Southern Division sweep last weekend. As these two teams are the northernmost teams in the league, this game has already been dubbed “The Northern Duel”.
Both teams are led by veteran head coaches with NFL experience
Michigan head coach Jeff Fisher spent 22 years as NFL head coach with the Oilers/Titans and Rams. This is his first head coaching job since leaving the Rams in the 2016 season. Meanwhile, New Jersey is led by Mike Riley, who served as the Chargers head coach. of San Diego for three seasons from 1999 to 2001. Despite overlapping for three seasons as NFL head coaches, this will be Fisher and Riley’s first meeting.
