20:00 – “Previously on ‘Survivor’! In the fourth episode, Taku earned a 10 fish reward thanks to Jonathan’s dominating performance in the challenge. Later, Taku and Vati were granted immunity, sending Ika to tribal council. Rocksroy and Swati wanted to reject Tori, but then Tori, Romeo and Drea compared notes and realized Swati was playing them all. Swati sensed she was in danger and used her shot in the dark advantage, but she was deemed “not safe”. Who will be elected tonight?
8:01 p.m. – After being caught off guard by the Swati vote, Rocksroy told the rest of Ika that he was glad they eliminated her because someone who plays both sides is dangerous in the game, but he took the fact that he was caught off guard as a sign that his social game isn’t as strong as he thought. While the group all agreed that they would remain “strong four”, Tori said in a confessional that was not what she planned to do due to her distrust of Rocksroy.
8:04 p.m. – In Taku, Jonathan was growing tired of the constant conversations between Maryanne and Lindsay, seeking silence on 2-3 hour dive trips with their new fishing gear. There was a small argument between Maryanne and Jonathan one afternoon that ended in Jonathan leaving with Lindsay. This made Maryanne paranoid that he would stage a vote against her, but Omar knew that any disconnect in their group would make them prime targets in a change or merger for the other tribes to create a division.
8:07 p.m. – Vati also had a potential merger in mind – Hai knew he couldn’t trust his tribunes anymore, considering their easiest vote going forward would be against Chanelle because the guys might expect he is against Daniel. The problem was that they realized while he was out with the fishing gear that he told them he couldn’t participate in the water challenges because of his dislocated shoulder on the first day. Mike started wondering how long they would have to carry him through the game with an apparent fake reason to put himself at low risk.
8:14 p.m. – Romeo and Drea are on the hunt for an idol again, confirming that they both consider each other number one allies. Finally, they found the third “watch out” perk which, in Drea’s hands, would require her to publicly speak the passphrase during a challenge: “Potatoes have skin. I have skin. Am I a potato?Once they read the other lines, Drea knew Maryanne had the idol, but since Mike hadn’t read his yet, they weren’t sure if the third had Back in Vati, Mike still planned not to activate his idol so that it would remain a secret during the merge.
8:23 p.m. – Despite his plan not to activate the idols, when Mike heard Maryanne and Drea say their lines in the upcoming immunity challenge, he said his as well. With that, all three got their votes back and now have active idols. The two winning tribes of this obstacle course challenge would earn immunity and the tarps reward. Once again, Vati chose Daniel to take on the challenge. Tori gave Ika an early lead in the second and third stages of the challenge, then Drea and Rocksroy closed it for safety while Omar still worked the tangled ropes in the second stage. Luckily for Taku, Vati was failing the slingshot portion of the challenge. Jonathan managed to defeat them by hitting their targets before Vati could hit both of them.
8:31 p.m. – As winners, Ika could choose a player from Vati to go on a trip. They chose Lydia and then selected Rocksroy from their own tribe to join her.
8:37 p.m. – Back at camp, Daniel and Chanelle asked if they would have a chance to talk to each one individually because they both felt like they were on the chopping block for the vote. Hai tells Daniel that he trusts her more and that Chanelle needs to leave because she’s going to switch to fusion. Meanwhile, Mike told Chanelle that he was eliminating Daniel, but wanted him to feel comfortable enough not to play his shot in the dark. Later, Mike told Hai he would do whatever he wanted, but they were worried that Lydia would lose her vote on the trip.
8:41 p.m. – During the trip, Lydia wanted to keep her lips tight and hinted to Rocksroy that she was at the bottom of the tribe and worried about going home. Rocksroy also didn’t want to give any information, so he wondered if she was also secret. When making their decision, they both seemed to want to act independently to protect their tribe. Rocksroy thought Lydia would want the opportunity to risk it and so he protected her vote. However, she was more afraid of losing her vote, so she also protected her vote. This kept them going even without losing their votes and without winning the extra vote.
8:44 p.m. – Upon her return to camp, Lydia met Chanelle and Daniel, pledging her loyalty to each of them. Privately, she said she didn’t fully trust Chanelle, but saw Daniel as a liability. Hai was able to give Lydia the full recap shortly before they left for Tribal Council, but it was unclear which direction the power couple in Vati would go. Hai knew that this decision would determine their success when the merger finally happened.
8:50 p.m. – At tribal, Daniel wanted to emphasize Mike’s “team mentality” and how that translates to a close-knit tribe that will always feel like a team. Chanelle used this as an example of how hard Daniel plays the game to feed Mike’s ego and that he doesn’t mean anything he says. Daniel defended that he wasn’t lying, but then went into an analogy after telling Jeff that he was “not an analogy guy”. Lydia said trust is definitely the most important thing for them at this point as all tribes will be tied at four after this vote.
8:55 p.m. – Because nobody played a benefit or an idol, Jeff read the votes: Chanelle, Daniel, Chanelle, Daniel, Mike. This shocked Mike, leaving the vote tied between Chanelle and Daniel. After the vote, Jeff read the votes: Daniel, Daniel. As they got up to leave, Mike turned to Chanelle and muttered “someone voted for me”, suggesting he would be picking them up in the next few days. In the credits, we saw that it was Chanelle who had voted for Mike (and that Mike had voted for Chanelle).
THE NEXT TIME: In a special two-hour episode, the three tribes of four drop their buffs for the not-exactly-the-merge!
