The Stars comfortably ousted the Wretched 122-total Renegades thanks to some genius from Glenn Maxwell.
Winning by six wickets, the Stars only beat the total by four with 5.3 overs to spare.
The Australian T20 star was a top class at 68 of 45 to go undefeated at the end of the game.

In bowling innings, the Stars’ leg-rotating pair shone brightly to dismantle the Renegades.
Adam Zampa (2-18) and Qais Ahmad (2-15) anchored the Stars’ bowling innings and brilliantly restrained their city rivals.
Maxwell also stole the show at the bowling round with a hilarious round of sledging aimed at his Aussie teammate Aaron Finch.

“He’s got a big front panel, look at that,” Maxwell told commentators through his microphone.
“Honey, look at the size of that leg. “
“Not far, that big front panel,” Maxwell continued.
“He just gave me a cheeky smile which is nice.”
The Stars will now leave the bottom of the table and lead the Renegades, Strikers and Heat in their late push to the final.
Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Coulter-Nile will be welcome on the green side as they now sit in fifth place and have returned to final places.
“We still think we have a chance to make these finals,” Maxwell said in a post-game interview.
“Last week I definitely pulled it off, I definitely got hit a little harder than I thought with Covid.
“This is the first time that I’m really back and exercising a lot when the weather is nice and hot and it absolutely baked me out.”

THE STARS LOSE THE EARLY WINDOWS
The Stars lost two wickets at the start of their small-total Renegade hunt.
After initially being belted for a whopping six, Josh Lalor hit back well and grabbed the wicket from England batsmen Joe Clarke.
Only two balls later, Zahir Khan stepped in, bowling Beau Webster after making a capricious shot for a nice delivery.
The Stars sit 2-48 after 5.2 overs with seasoned Joe Burns and T20 International star Glenn Maxwell in the crease.
The team in green will be hoping the two veterans will see them again at home and complete a brilliant redemption after the final Melbourne derby on January 3.
Currently they are heading towards the Renegades total and Michael Vaughan has criticized the tactics of Captain Nic Maddinson.
“It’s too easy, it’s bad Renegades tactic,” Vaughan said.
The Stars still have Stoinis and Coulter-Nile to return to their starting squad as they begin their late push to final cricket.
RENEGADES AND MAXWELL’S DIG STRUGGLES
The Renegades struggled to finish 7-122 with just two batsmen hitting double digits,
Jake Fraser-McGurk scored 32 of 39 deliveries in slow innings leading the order while Aaron Finch scored 45 of 44 balls at number five.
It was the first time in BBl history that Aaron Finch had hit lower than number four and the first time he had made it to the third drop since IPL in 2018.

The Star Spinners led the way with composed and patient bowling.
Adam Zampa and Qais Ahmad both had under 20 points with two wickets apiece, while Haris Rauf finished the innings strong with numbers 2-28 on his four overs.
The Renegades failed to shoot in the Melbourne derby, but Glenn Maxwell took it upon himself to entertain the audience with a hilarious sled.

“Honey, look at the size of that leg. “
“Not far, that big front board,” said Maxwell, sledding his Aussie teammate Aaron Finch.
“He just gave me a cheeky smile which is nice.”

THE RENEGADES COLLAPSE
The Renegades suffered a huge slump to sit 5-79 after 14 overs.
Qais Ahmad and Adam Zampa have woven a web into the rise, with the Afghan medical examiner taking two wickets in his final to finish with a staggering 2-15 from four.
Aaron Finch is still the man in danger, despite having a strike rate of less than 100.
The Renegades are hoping to take it further and capitalize late in the heats with youngster Jack Prestwidge pairing the Australian T20 star.
Haris Rauf still has two overs to throw and the team in red is hoping to reverse the speedster’s effects towards the end of the heats.
RAUF STARS AS A MAXWELL SLEDGE
The Stars seized three first wickets, including stars Shaun Marsh and Nic Maddinson in their redemption clash against the Renegades.
Pakistani speedster Haris Rauf was the star from the start, playing rhythmically and performing his variations to sideline two of the Big Three Renegades.
Zampa immediately grabbed a wicket with Mackenzie Harvey nailing a straight to Rauf in the depths.
Aaron Finch made it into the crease, hitting lower than usual for the Melbourne team.
Young gun Fraser-McGurk and Aussie T20 star are hoping to set a defensible total for the Gades.
During Aaron Finch’s first balls, Glenn Maxwell handed out the sleds to his national teammate.
“He’s got a big front panel, look at that,” Maxwell told commentators through his microphone.
“Honey, look at the size of that leg. “
“Close by, that big front board,” said Maxwell as he sled Finch.
“He just gave me a cheeky smile which is nice.”
PRE-MATCH WRAP
The Melbourne Stars are hoping to get the best of their city rivals with all of their top players ready to shoot.
In their last clash on January 3, the Stars were short of players, while the Renegades were largely unaffected by the recent outbreaks of Covid in the BBL.
Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh have been brilliant since returning for the team in red, while Marcus Stoinis is set to miss again for the Stars after a spell of Covid isolation and subsequent back strain.

The match is sure to produce big totals with some of the competition’s most explosive hitters on display at Marvel Stadium.
The match is essential for the two Melbourne teams who have only one glimmer of hope to qualify for the final.
The Stars occupy the bottom of the ladder while the Renegades occupy a spot in seventh.
