Houston Texans preseason opener: 3 offensive players to watch
The Houston Texans will come up against the New Orleans Saints for their first pre-season game on Saturday August 13 at home. The pre-season may not count, but it is still extremely valuable for several reasons.
One of the reasons preseason is valuable would be that it’s good for players to get rid of the rust before the regular season starts and actually practice in the game. The more reps you have , the more comfortable and prepared you will be for when it really matters.
Another reason is that a lot of these players are low on the list of guys vying for a spot on the final roster or practice squad. You never know what kind of player you might find. Some players come out of nowhere and end up becoming an important part of their team. Arian Foster is the Houston Texans’ leading running back in franchise history and he went undrafted.
Here are some offensive players to watch throughout the Texans’ preseason opener against the Saints:
Running back Dameon Pierce
Dameon Pierce was drafted by the Texans in the fourth round of this year’s draft and was the leading running back throughout training camp. Pierce has received many positive reviews this offseason and it will be interesting to see the aggressive runner in action.
Johnny Johnson III Wide Receiver
Johnny Johnson III will be one of the receivers competing for a spot on the final roster and if he can show his playmaking ability throughout the preseason, there could be an opening at the slot position. for the former Oregon Duck.
Jalen Camp wide receiver
The Texans need all the help they can get at receiver. Although Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins will start and get the majority of the targets, there is room for others to carve out a role. Camp is an athletic freak who had an impressive training camp and will be in the mix for a spot on the roster.
The preseason is your chance to show and prove that you belong on an NFL roster. It will be interesting to see which players show their ability to play and make a name for themselves.
