The Eagles are flying high at the moment, having collected more points (12) than any other Bundesliga side in their last five outings. Last week’s 3-1 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach lifted them into fourth place, a step and a point ahead of Dortmund. Their confidence will be further boosted by the impressive 2-1 UEFA Champions League victory over Marseille on Tuesday, which kept them in contention for qualification for the last 16. Götze provided a sublime assist for Randal Kolo Muani in this match, and the 30-year-old will be keen to dazzle once again against his former employers. Jesper Lindström also looks invincible at the moment – the Dane already has five league goals this season – but Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner will be forced to make at least one change following Christopher Lenz’s injury against Marseille. Luca Pellegrini is expected to start as an identical replacement at left-back.
Dortmund also posted a remarkable Champions League result in midweek, shutting out former striker Erling Haaland and Manchester City in a 0-0 draw that sealed their place in the next round. This extended their unbeaten streak to three games in all competitions, and BVB will be keen to continue as well as end a three-game away losing streak in the Bundesliga. Bellingham is a starter nailed down as the team’s driving force and main source of goals – the 19-year-old has eight in all competitions in 2022/23. Teenager Gio Reyna has looked good since returning from injury, scoring his first league goal of the season in Stuttgart’s 5-0 thrashing last weekend. Marco Reus is still classed as a doubt following an ankle complaint, while Marius Wolf is expected to start at left-back if Raphael Guerreiro is not on a thigh.

Match statistics
- Bellingham’s double against Stuttgart last week made him – at the age of 19 years and 115 days – the third youngest player to score a brace for BVB. Only Jadon Sancho (18 years, 216 days, as of October 2018) and Daniel Simmes (18 years, 230 days, as of March 1985) were younger.
- Anthony Modeste is in line to make his 200th Bundesliga appearance.
- Dortmund have beaten Frankfurt more times (47) than any other Bundesliga team.
- Kolo Muani has had six assists in his first 10 Bundesliga games. Only two players have reached this benchmark faster since detailed data collection began: Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa (nine games) and Werder Bremen’s Diego (seven games).
- Djibril Sow will make his 100th Bundesliga outing for Frankfurt if he features.
- Frankfurt coach Glasner has lost all six games his sides have played against BVB, losing four times with Wolfsburg and twice with the Eagles.
