49ers vs. Texans: Which players are on the bubble?
The 2-0 Houston Texans will face the 2-0 San Francisco 49ers Thursday night in Houston.
Several players on the Texans roster will try to put up a strong showing to prove they belong on an NFL roster.
Here are three players you should watch closely:
WR Jalen Camp
Jalen Camp had an impressive offseason and continued that progression in the Texans’ preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints, but disappeared in Game 2 against the Los Angeles Rams. Camp could make the list if he can have another dominating game against the 49ers.
BY Derek Rivers
Derek Rivers will be hard to cut when the Texans have to make their final decisions on the few available spots on the roster. Rivers has looked unstoppable at times throughout the Texans’ first two preseason games, racking up three sacks in that span. Rivers has a chance to make the roster with a hard-hitting third straight game this Thursday night.
DT Ross Blacklock
Ross Blacklock hasn’t found a consistent rhythm in Houston since being drafted in the second round from the TCU in 2020. Blacklock was playing late in the game against the Rams on Friday night and didn’t increase his value much. Blacklock is still only 24 and may still have his best football ahead of him, but he may not be in Houston much longer.
The Texans will have some tough decisions to make after Thursday’s game against the 49ers. It’s the last chance for several players to show off their skills and push to make Houston’s final roster or a spot on the practice squad.
