Zelensky swears Ukrainian forces will return to Lysychansk
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged that Ukrainian forces had withdrawn from Lysychansk in the Donbass, but pledged to restore control of the region through army tactics and the prospect of new and improved weapons.
“If the commanders of our army are withdrawing people from certain points of the front, where the enemy has the greatest advantage in firepower, and this also applies to Lysychansk, it means only one thing,” said Zelenskyy in his speech.
“That we will come back thanks to our tactics, thanks to the increased supply of modern weapons.”
IOC boss Bach says ‘Ukraine’s flag will fly high’ at Olympics
Olympics chief Thomas Bach said the organization will ensure Ukrainian athletes can compete in the 2024 Games despite the Russian onslaught.
Speaking during a visit to Kyiv to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Bach pledged to increase the amount of IOC funding for athletes in the conflict-torn country.
This will ensure that at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina-Milano, “the Ukrainian flag will fly high,” Bach said.
“The IOC will triple the fund we set up at the very beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine from $2.5 million to $7.5 million,” he added. Zelenskyy welcomed the additional support.
