WR Prospect Jaylon Robinson reveals transfer commitment in exclusive blog with SI

Jaylon Robinson is one of the most coveted wide receivers on the NCAA transfer portal, targeted by some of the nation’s top college football programs since UCF’s transfer intentions were announced. Ready to make a final decision between recently visited schools including Ole Miss, TCU, Tennessee and Miami, Robinson writes a blog for Sports Illustrated to reveal his college choice.

Hello everyone, this is Jaylon Robinson, also known as Jay Flash.

It was a long process, and it was difficult. When I first jumped into the portal, I didn’t think I was going to bond as fast as I did with these trainers. I actually learned a lot on these visits watching a movie with all these coaches and seeing how different minds think in different systems.

One thing about it, before you get in, the relationships you build over time with your teammates are tough when it comes to letting go. When you finally decide to tell them you’re leaving, it hits hard. Same with the technical staff.

When I decided to leave UCF, man, it cost me a lot. UCF was a school that gave me a great opportunity, and I took it and ran with it. UCF will always have a special place in my heart. But, it was a decision that I thought was best for me.

I spoke with my family, and we had been talking about it for a long time – I went to Oklahoma first, then to UCF, but I always felt the need to get back on the big stage (I’m not saying that UCF is not the big stage).

I want to play in the SEC because it’s always been a dream of mine. Coming back, after my injury last year, to show that I can perform at a higher level and still do the same things I did at AAC will be another dream come true.

The stressful nights, all the travels, meetings, overthinking, memories and changes between schools and coaches are over. I just had to sit down and think about what my heart was telling me.

My heart told me that I decided to be an Ole Miss Rebel. Right off the bat, my heart told me, from the first visit, that I was going to be an Ole Miss Rebel.

First, I knew (Director of Recruitment Strategy) Kevin Bolden from UCF, so visiting Ole Miss was an easy transition. I was quite comfortable with him. They gave me a warm welcome. Derrick Nix, the receivers coach, is very genuine. He’s a nice man. I like his attitude, his approach and the way he speaks and presents himself in an elevated manner. Relationships are key to me, like who can I bond with? Who could I establish a connection with the fastest? I think Ole Miss gave me that.

After meeting all the other coaches, it was a vibe right from the start. They had the best presentation for me with how they plan to use me and put me in different situations. Just using me, kind of like they used Elijah Moore, I would say like a high school player. Where you have fun – lining up in the backfield and all the crazy stuff you want to enjoy. Lane (Kiffin) said I was the missing piece to make them more explosive.

It’s a big step, and you can do it at the highest level. I’m just ready to get my rhythm back and the old way. My sophomore year, I always feel like I left a lot of stuff on the table and it wasn’t me. It was just a little butter on the bread.

Got a little more flavor that I’m gonna bring to Mississippi. I trust Lane and the plan they have for me. I’m excited because it’s a very fun coaching staff. You have to enjoy the process, and I enjoyed it with them. I’m excited about the season.

You take a big risk when you do something like that, and I knew it was going to be a risk. Having to learn a new system and compete for a spot — because it’s not all given, but I’m very confident in my style of play and what I can do on the court, so I wasn’t really concerned about game time or competition. I will compete.

I will always compete. Every school gave me a punch. TCU was his hometown school. Tennessee is where my old coaches are. I feel like those ties will never break, but I felt like I had to take the next step forward for myself. Tennessee was probably the hardest because I think everyone thought I was going there just because I knew the coaching staff because of how well we got together. I wanted to try something new and push myself to be. I knew this system but I wanted to do something different.

I’m a guy with something to prove.

There’s not much to say because it’s time to start doing something. I’m ready for the first game. I hope these six months will be among the best in the history of Ole Miss. I come to write history, I come to leave a trace. I have a high spirit, and it won’t go down. I have goals that I must reach and I have goals that I will reach. I think the coaching staff will help me achieve these goals.
