12:30 p.m., power outages reported in eastern Barnstable County
Thousands of eastern Massachusetts residents are without power on Saturday as a major winter storm hits the state with near-record snowfall and high winds.
State officials on Friday warned residents, especially those in the eastern parts of the state and Cape Town and the Islands, to expect power outages on Saturday.
Hurricane-force wind gusts were recorded on Cape Cod, with Wellfleet reporting winds of 82 mph.
Speeds of over 70 mph have been recorded by Nantucket Memorial Airport, Scituate and Kalmus Beach.
Eastern parts of the state are experiencing wind gusts between 50 and 60 mph, while north to northwest speeds will continue to increase and peak by mid-afternoon.
Shortly before noon, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency reported more than 116,000 power outages statewide, with Barnstable County being the hardest hit.

11am, Wellfleet records hurricane-force winds of 82 mph
According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts reached 82 mph in Wellfleet.
Speeds of 70+ have been recorded by Nantucket Memorial Airport, Scituate and Kalmus Beach.

10:00 a.m. Blizzard warning in effect, 10 inches on the ground reported in eastern Massachusetts
A blizzard warning is in effect for parts of eastern, northeast and southeast Massachusetts through 5 a.m. Sunday. The forecast called for wind gusts up to 70 mph creating whiteout conditions.
A whopping 24 to 30 inches is expected to hit Boston and much of southeastern Massachusetts. And while the forecast totals drop as you head west, most of the state is expected to see more than a foot of snow. The western end of the Berkshires is the only part of the state expected to be spared heavy snowfall with 4 to 6 inches expected there.
Snowfall rates are expected to reach up to 2 to 4 inches per hour at times.

Thundersnow – thunder during a snowstorm – was reported in Attleboro just before 11 a.m.
