On paper, this should be a straight win for sixth-placed Parramatta over 15th-placed Wests, even away to the traditional Tigers lair.
Wests rarely threatened an exuberant Warriors side in Auckland last weekend, winning just one of their last eight games and only three all season. But one of those wins was a 21-20 win over Parramatta in the sixth round and the Eels are getting into the habit of battling the teams below them on the ladder.
Parramatta is an enigma. They have beaten Melbourne and Penrith away this season, but in their last three games they have suffered heavy defeats against Canterbury and Souths. Go figure.
The Wests have named Adam Doueihi in their starting squad for the first time this season, with the Lebanon international replacing James Roberts in centre. James Tamou is back from injury and starting as a prop, while Jacob Liddle returns to the bench alongside Wests Magpies junior Justin Matamua who will be making his NRL debut.
Parramatta lost Junior Paulo to Origin, with Marata Niukore moving to prop and Origin backrower Ryan Matterson returning to the side after missing last weekend’s loss to Souths.
Prediction
Who knows which version of Parramatta will appear tonight? Either way, they should still have too much for the Tasteless Tigers.
With Gold Coast having a bye, a point of interest could be whether Parramatta’s margin of victory will be enough for Wests to fall through the trap door and touch the bottom of the NRL ladder. A Parramatta victory by 16 points or more will suffice.
