Wednesday Blog: Followed by another winter event taking place on Thursday. -Doug
The start of the week was cold with lots of clouds in the area. We are going to see a warm up but we also have another storm system that will start to affect us on Thursday and Friday. If you follow the cycle, that would be our January 5th and November 2nd waves in the Heady Pattern. So let’s jump in. First, Wednesday seems to be the best day of the week.
Clouds will rise again Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
We will start to see a few showers develop as snow breaks out just to the north near the KC metro. We will warm up into the 50s and then crash mid to late afternoon into the 20s.
Thursday afternoon light showers and drizzle with rapidly dropping temperatures as a strong cold front moves through the region. In the evening we will move into freezing drizzle. This freezing drizzle could cause slippery spots after dark Thursday evening.
The light snow really picks up after midnight Thursday night. Light snow persists through Friday morning.
Light snow continues through early Friday afternoon. Then it should decrease, but I expect to see some buildup.
The heaviest amounts will remain north of Topeka in KC where most likely 3-6″ will fall. Most of us have it in the 1/2-2″ range. We could have 3″ uprights, but I’ll be fine-tuning that and tweaking it over the next two days. The long term forecast is below.

From Wednesday to next Saturday: Mild Wednesday and Thursday with possible thunderstorms Thursday. Behind this system we will cool down a bit over the weekend with some showers by Saturday.
March 20-26: Mild with showers and thunderstorms Sunday and Monday. Staying cool and mostly dry through the weekend. Thunderstorm chances return by the weekend.
March 27-April 2nd: A cold start but mild temperatures midweek 3 with midweek thunderstorms. Another round of storms by the weekend.
April 3-9: Risk of thunderstorms Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday. But overall a sweet week.
