Updates as the snow recedes, wind and refreeze are likely to come next

The snow will move west to east this morning before 9 am.
Temperatures will struggle to rise above freezing this afternoon, so a refreeze is likely.
A winter storm warning is in effect for most of the South Side, Lower Peninsula, East Coast and Northeast North Carolina Friday through Saturday morning.
A winter weather advisory has also been placed for Surry, Sussex, James City, Williamsburg, Gloucester and Mathews.
Closures All City offices, courts, community centers and libraries are CLOSED. Community centers and libraries will remain closed all weekend. Monday’s status will be determined Sunday evening.
Virginia Beach will remain in essential operating conditions through 8 a.m. Sunday. The Virginia Beach Sports Center will have a delayed opening at 9 a.m. on Saturday and the volleyball tournament is expected to continue.
The following Virginia Beach affiliate sites will be closed on Saturday, January 22:
- Resource Landfill and Recovery Center
- Libraries
- Mount Trashmore (tobogganing is prohibited)
- Leisure centers
- The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts box office
- The House of Righteousness
- Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center
- West Col Recycling Center
Due to road conditions and for the safety of passengers and staff, Suffolk Public Works advises that Suffolk Transit service has been suspended for today, Saturday 22nd January 2022.
Waste and Recycling Update Garbage and recycling collection routes are postponed to Monday, January 24. Citizens can drop cans off at the curb starting Sunday evening for Monday collection. Waste management workers will assist with road clearing efforts, so continued delays in collection are likely.
