Nine Russian attacks repelled in Donetsk, Luhansk

Ukraine’s military said it repelled nine Russian attacks in Donetsk and Luhansk over the past day.

Five Russian tanks, four artillery systems, 10 armored fighting vehicles, two military vehicles and one drone were also destroyed, according to the latest update from the Ukrainian General Staff.

Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile units also shot down two cruise missiles, while 12 units of Russian military equipment were destroyed in airstrikes, he added.

Russia bombs Ukrainian regions of Donbass and Mykolaiv

Russia pounded Ukrainian forces with airstrikes and artillery to the east and south, targeting command centers, troops and ammunition dumps, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Major General Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the Defense Ministry, said air-launched missiles hit three command points, 13 areas where Ukrainian troops and military equipment have accumulated, as well as four depots of ammunition in the Donbass.

In the Mykolaiv region of southern Ukraine, Russian rockets hit a mobile anti-drone system near the settlement of Hannivka, about 100 km northeast of the city of Mykolaiv, Konashenkov said.

Ukraine refuses concessions in the face of Russian attacks in the Donbass

Ukraine has ruled out a ceasefire or concessions to Russia as the latter steps up an offensive in the eastern Donbass region and cuts gas supplies to Finland, as Polish President Andrzej Duda prepares to address the Ukrainian parliament on Sunday.

After ending weeks of resistance by the last remaining Ukrainian fighters in the strategic southeastern city of Mariupol, Russia is waging a major offensive in Luhansk, one of the two provinces of Donbass.

Russian-backed separatists already controlled swaths of territory in Luhansk and neighboring Donetsk province before the February 24 assault, but Moscow wants to seize the last Ukrainian territory in Donbass.

“The situation in Donbass is extremely difficult,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. The Russian army was trying to attack the towns of Sloviansk and Sievierodonetsk, but Ukrainian forces were holding back their advance, he said.
