The Newcastle United Blog | Reporter reveals Newcastle’s first plan for ‘raw talent’ set for medical

Newcastle fans were treated to the good news that a deal has finally been agreed with Lille for Sven Botman. Contrary to reports from Italy, the player likes to move.

Botman will travel to Newcastle on Monday for his medical before putting pen to paper on a five-year deal. The personal terms have already been hashed out according to multiple reports.

The amount of the fee is still a point of contention in media circles, with the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards believing Newcastle have held firm to their £30million offer. Other sources claim Newcastle have increased their bid to complete the deal.

Edwards took to Twitter this morning to reveal Eddie Howe and head scout Steve Nickson are big fans of the 22-year-old. However, they don’t see him as the finished article and Howe could get him into the starting XI.

With the addition of Botman, Newcastle will take their summer spree to over £50m with plenty more cash in the coffers. Edwards reported yesterday that the budget still had between £40m and £50m plus player sales.

There is a lot of work to be done as goals need to be added to the squad while a number of players still need to be moved. Newcastle are struggling to find new permanent homes for fringe squad members.

The situation with Hugo Ekitike continues to be a source of frustration. There were no concessions from its representatives on their excessive personal demands. Newcastle begin to probe other targets.
