The relegation battle just got a whole lot more interesting after Leeds’ dramatic win over Wolves last night. It was yet another Premier League game affected by a questionable refereeing decision.
Wolves stormed to a two-goal first-half lead with questionable defending from the visitors. Leeds had a mountain to climb but were given a helping hand when referee Kevin Friend showed Raul Jimenez a second yellow card early in the second half.
Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier came out of his box to clear a ball that Jimenez was leaning on. The two collided in what looked like a clear 50/50 challenge. Both players received treatment with Meslier forced to retire.
However, Friend produced a yellow card for Jiminez, resulting in an early exit. Leeds fought back with three goals, including Luke Ayling’s stoppage-time winner for a massive three-pointer.
The win pushes Leeds seven points above the drop zone and just 2 points behind Newcastle, whose failure to get anything at Goodison Park has caused a bit more discomfort in our league standings. .
Another game that could impact Newcastle is Brentford’s trip to Leicester City tomorrow. The Bees can skip Newcastle with just a draw against the Foxes. Here’s a look at the Premier League standings.
