The Newcastle United Blog | Newcastle take another step for Lingard as permanent deal discussed – Report

Newcastle have made a formal approach for Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard according to Martin Hardy with The Times, and others. It was reported earlier today that Newcastle are stepping up their interest in the 29-year-old.

Lingard is out of contract this summer with Newcastle hoping to secure a permanent deal in this window. The player, however, will have plenty of options this summer which could complicate things.

If Newcastle are unable to tempt Lingard into a permanent move, they are prepared to offer Manchester United a £2million loan fee for the remainder of the season. The approach, for now, is to bring in the England international on a permanent basis.

There are also reports that Kieran Trippier, who is good friends with Lingard, could help him make at least the partial move to St. James’ Park this month. Even just on loan, having Lingard on board for our relegation fight would be an astronomical boost.

It seems to suit all parties. Lingard will get the first-team football he desires ahead of the 2022 World Cup at the end of the year. Manchester United will receive a loan fee for a player leaving for nothing this summer.

Of course, Newcastle could get the most out of it if Lingard replicates what he achieved at West Ham on loan last season. He was simply sensational scoring 9 goals with 5 assists in 16 appearances.
