Eddie Howe is determined to add at least one forward to his squad before the deadline. Miguel Almiron’s form coupled with Elliot Anderson’s rise this pre-season may mean Newcastle are only targeting a striker in the final weeks of this window.
L’Express cited reports from Portugal that an offer could arrive for Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos, who fits the profile of a young striker who turned just 21 in June.
Ramos started this campaign in fine form with a hat-trick in their 4-1 win over Midtjylland in the Champions League qualifier earlier this month. He also contributed with 2 assists in their league opener win over Arouca over the weekend.
The Portugal U21 international has scored 17 goals in 61 appearances for Benfica. He also scored 15 goals in 37 appearances for their B side, who play in the Portuguese second division.
He made headlines when he scored a brace on his senior debut despite coming on in the 85th minute in 2020.

Ramos has been part of the Benfica squad since 2013 when he was just 12 years old. He signed a new contract until 2026 last October and was recently courted by PSG, who failed to agree a deal.
Benfica are reportedly ready to listen to offers in excess of £25m which could open the door for Newcastle. Wolves, no surprise as he is Portuguese, and Nottingham Forest are also stalking Ramos.
His qualities would fit into Eddie Howe’s system as he is known for his relentless pressing and his ability to find space. He played second fiddle to Darwin Nunez last season, often playing behind the new Liverpool striker. This year he has started very brightly as Benfica’s focal point.
