The Newcastle United Blog | Loan Update – Local lads strike again in League Two action

Elliot Anderson did it again for Bristol Rovers scoring the game-winner in a 1-0 home draw against Salford City. It’s Anderson’s fifth goal of his loan spell.

Second-half substitute Luke Thomas found the Geordie inside the box in the 75th minute. Elliot’s low shot found the back of the net to give Joey Barton’s boys a crucial three points.

Victory keeps Bristol firmly in the playoff places in 5th with just four games to go although the two clubs behind them (Mansfield Town and Sutton United) have a game in hand.

Earlier today, Anderson’s superb individual goal against Harrogate Town was named League Two Goal of the Month for March.

Matty Longstaff got his 11th start for Mansfield Town this afternoon. The Stags were at home to promotion rivals Sutton United.

Sutton striker Omar Bugiel gave the visitors an early lead with a 9th-minute goal. David Agiboye doubled the lead shortly after the break with his 8th goal of the campaign.

An own goal from Ben Goodliffe reduced the lead to one in the 78th minute. However, that was short-lived as Richie Bennet brought the cushion down to two minutes later.

Matty added a consolation goal in added time as his long-range shot deflected into the net to make it 3-2. However, that wasn’t enough as Mansfield lost a crucial game, a rare defeat at Field Mill.

The Stags retain a playoff spot in 6th but only by three points to 8th in Newport County. Sutton’s victory propelled them into the final playoff spot with a game in hand over Newport.

Longstaff had a great game with 2 key assists, 8 crosses while completing over 80% of his passes in addition to his excellent loan fourth goal.

Joe White started his afternoon on the bench as Hartlepool took on Port Vale at Victoria Park. The Valiants took the lead through Connor Hall in the 67th minute.

White was brought on soon after for Mark Shelton, but Port Vale held on for the slim victory. It was White’s 13th appearance for the Pools who remain 13th in League Two.
