The Newcastle United Blog | Howe praises under-impact and is hopeful of Isak’s eligibility at Anfield

Newcastle picked up a well-deserved point at Wolves this afternoon to keep the unbeaten streak alive. It took a late screamer from Allan Saint-Maximin to secure the point. However, without Bruno and Callum in tow, we’ll take the point outside.

After the match, Eddie Howe gave a mixed review of the performance. Although he is very happy with the impact of the substitutes in the second half. Here is part of what he said as it was published in The Echo of the North:

“Mixed really. I thought in the first half we had the chance to really control and dominate the game. I felt like we let her get away from us sometimes. This control, I thought we could have it but it didn’t really materialize.

“Thanks to Wolves, they have good players but I felt it was more of a self-induced lack of control but the second half was much better, I was very happy. We made better decisions on the ball, probed better around their box and finally got our rewards for it.

“I think if you look at the impact of substitutes today, Matt Targett, Ryan Fraser, Jacob Murphy, Elliot Anderson have all had a positive impact on the team.

“Unless they’re in the right frame of mind when they come onto the pitch and are actually involved in the game, that doesn’t happen, so that’s a good sign.

“I think you feel when you score, the emotions off the bench were genuine from the guys that didn’t come in. It’s a huge thing and a big credit to our supporters for their noise and support throughout the game.

The point pushes Newcastle into 7th place in the table with a Liverpool date looming on Wednesday. The Reds decimated Bournemouth 9-0 yesterday at Anfield. Unfortunately, we won’t have Guimaraes as Eddie Howe says the Brazilian will miss a few games due to injury.

New signing Alexander Isak has yet to receive his work permit so was forced to watch from the stands today. He is expected to be eligible on Wednesday, although Howe lamented the length of the process:

“It’s our first (work permit) since I’ve been here that has taken so long.

“I don’t know if the bank holiday weekend has anything to do with it, maybe. But I would be extremely disappointed if we could use it on Wednesday to some extent.
