Sheriff’s office investigating Alderpoint homicide

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of another man who was found outside a residence on the 100 block of Sixth Street in Alderpoint with what appeared to be a gunshot wound just before 5 a.m. today ‘hui.
“During the investigation, the sheriff’s office received information that a vehicle possibly associated with the incident was involved in a traffic accident on Highway 36 near Buck Mountain, and officers of the California Highway Patrol had located and detained two people associated with the vehicle, “a press release said. state release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver, Jake Henry Combs, 29, was arrested. The name of the deceased man is currently withheld pending notification of the next of kin. The case is still under investigation and the HCSO statement says there is “no perceived threat to the community at this time.”

At approximately 4:55 a.m. on January 6, 2022, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence on 100 Block 6th Street in Alderpoint to report a gunshot victim.
MPs arrived in the area and located an adult male who died with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. During the investigation, the sheriff’s office received information that a vehicle possibly associated with the incident was involved in a traffic accident on Highway 36 near Buck Mountain, and officers from California Highway Patrol had located and detained two people associated with the vehicle.
After further investigation, the driver of the vehicle, Jake Henry Combs, 29, was determined to be the suspect responsible for the victim’s death. Combs was arrested and is incarcerated in the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for murder (PC 187 (A)).
This case is still under investigation. There is no perceived threat to the community at this time.
The identity of the victim is retained pending notification of the next of kin. An autopsy is being scheduled.
