Russian forces control eastern part of Sievierodonetsk in Ukraine – governor
Russian forces continue to storm Sievierodonetsk, controlling the eastern part of the city, said Serhiy Gaidai, governor of the Luhansk region where Sievierodonetsk is located.
Gaidai said parts of the Azot chemical plant were damaged in Saturday’s attacks.

Ukrainian forces have counter-attacked in the disputed town of Sievierodonetsk in eastern Ukraine, the UK Ministry of Defense has said.
The move will likely blunt the operational momentum Russian forces had previously gained by concentrating combat units and firepower, the ministry said in a tweet.
Explosions rock Ukrainian capital Kyiv – mayor
Kyiv was rocked by several explosions early on Sunday, the Ukrainian capital’s mayor said, a day after officials said troops recaptured part of the city from the battlefield of Sievierodonetsk in a counteroffensive against Russia.
“Several explosions in Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts of the capital,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on the Telegram messaging app.
“Services are already working on site. More detailed information – later.” A Reuters witness saw smoke in the city after the explosions.
Russia uses ‘all its power’ to capture Sievierodonetsk – Ukraine
Ukraine said its forces were managing to repel Moscow’s troops in fierce fighting in Sievierodonetsk as Russia “pulled all its might” into capturing the strategic eastern city.
At least 11 civilians were reportedly killed in the Lugansk region where Sievierodonetsk is located, the neighboring region of Donetsk and in the southern city of Mykolaiv.
Lugansk regional governor Sergiy Gaiday said in an interview posted online that forces had captured most of Sievierodonetsk, but Ukrainian forces were pushing them back.
“The Russian military, as we understand, is throwing all its power, all its reserves in this direction,” Gaiday said.
Western oil sanctions won’t affect Russia —Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Western sanctions would have no effect on the country’s oil exports and predicted a sharp rise in profits from energy shipments this year.
“Considering the price level that has been established as a result of the policies of the West, we have not suffered any budgetary loss,” the Foreign Ministry told a Bosnian Serb TV channel.
“On the contrary, this year we will greatly increase the export profits of our energy resources.”
Russian Gas Sanctions Will Cost Germans Another $5 Billion – report
Russia’s sanctions against Gazprom Germania and its subsidiaries could cost German taxpayers and gas users an additional 5 billion euros ($5.4 billion) a year to pay for replacement gas, the weekly Welt reported. am Sonntag, citing industry representatives.
In May, Russia decided to stop supplying Gazprom Germania, which was Gazprom’s German subsidiary, after Berlin placed the company under trusteeship due to Russian attacks on Ukraine.
Since then, energy regulator Bundesnetzagentur, acting as trustee, has had to buy replacement gas on the market to fulfill supply contracts with German municipal utilities and regional suppliers. Welt am Sonntag reported that Economy Minister Robert Habeck estimates that an additional 10 million cubic meters per day are needed, which would currently cost around 3.5 billion euros per year.
