Miami’s running backs room got even deeper after adding another top-notch prospect on National Signing Day. Citizen spent more than four months making an oral pledge to the LSU Tigers last year before reneging on his pledge just after Thanksgiving. By then, he had used up four of his official visits, leaving him with just one more in 2022. He spent the weekend in Coral Gables, and the Hurricanes and new running backs coach Kevin Smith were able to lock in his engagement. As he joins a crowded post group, Citizen has a knack for breaking the rotation. He was an All-American and rushed for 743 yards and 11 touchdowns on 65 carries in just six games last year, while losing just one fumble. He also broke up a one-time pass as a linebacker and won a state title in the 800-meter relay last year.

The Miami Hurricanes just got their first official representative on National Signing Day, and it’s coach Mario Cristobal’s preferred position group. Yeah, you guessed it.

Cooper was one of the last players targeted by Miami this cycle and the Hurricanes sealed his commitment in less than two weeks. They only offered him a scholarship 12 days before National Signing Day, then flew to Alabama last week for a home visit and brought him to campus over the weekend for an official visit. Coach Mario Cristobal’s specialty is offensive linemen and Cooper — at a whopping 6-6, 352 pounds — has the physical traits to be an interesting developmental project for Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal. .
12:11 p.m. UM is missing 6-foot-4, 294-pound defensive tackle Christen Miller of Ellenwood, Georgia. Miller, a consensus four-star lineman, was one of Mario Cristobal’s new targets and traveled to Miami last weekend. But instead, as expected, he signed with his in-state Georgia Bulldogs.

The big news for the University of Miami on Tuesday night was that Kevin Steele, a well-respected coaching veteran of several major college programs, is hired by UM as the next defensive coordinator.
It’s another big win for Mario Cristobal, who no doubt hopes to follow that up with a commitment to Miami at 1:30 this afternoon by 5-star defensive end Monsignor Pace Shemar Stewart, Florida State’s top rookie. . Stewart seemed firmly committed to Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M before Cristobal and his team began to recruit Stewart hard and not give up.
Stewart clarified that it would be difficult to pick Miami without knowing who their defensive coordinator would be, and so, look what happened. Now we’ll see if Stewart, who enjoyed his official visit to Coral Gables last weekend, will ditch it for his hometown of Canes.
As of Wednesday, UM had already signed 15 players for the class of 2022. They include the eight Canes signed on the first day of the early signing period which began on December 15, two thereafter and five transfers since Cristobal took over. .
