The Broncos extended their lead when Jake Trbojevic had a chance to escape the trash for knocking out Billy Walters after tearing himself up in the infield.

Reynolds capped off a brilliant first half with a bizarre chip and went on to score and give the Broncos a 14-0 lead at the break.

Reynolds picked up where he left off in the second half with a pinpoint second kick for Cobbo to secure a brace.

Cobbo then produced a brilliant interception to go the full length of the pitch and seal his hat trick and a huge 26-0 lead for the home side.

Corey Oates dove into the corner to put the icing on the cake of a convincing and ruthless Broncos performance.

Oates sealed his brace with five minutes remaining to make it 38-0 and complete the rout of the Broncos who are on track for a top-four berth in 2022.

Here are the main takeaways from the game.

‘MAGICIAN’ REYNOLDS IN CAREER BEST SHAPE

Adam Reynolds continued to make South Sydney’s decision to let it look absurd with a bizarre performance to lead the Broncos to a beating from Manly.

Reynolds had 22 yards from the run, two assists, seven goals from as many attempts and one of the best individual chip and chase tries that was overshadowed by Brisbane’s greatest halfback, Allan Langer.

Michael Ennis believes Reynolds is on course for a career-best season and in that form the Dally M Medal is not beyond his reach.

“We’ve seen Adam Reynolds have great seasons, but he’s had a great start to 2022,” Ennis said.

“He missed a lot of pre-season, so his first few weeks he was just finding his way, but his last month or so was superb. He’s in great shape.”

Benji Marshall has praised Reynolds’ bravery to try chip and chase and believes his kicking game is one of the best in the competition in 2022.

“Adam Reynolds is just a maestro tonight,” Marshall said.

“I like chipping and chasing. A lot of players probably don’t try to pull that off. You have to do exactly the right thing.

“What a special player he is. He’s been on fire. He’s a shining light for the Broncos.

Cooper Cronk praised Reynolds for his accuracy and vision in producing the right kick at the right time in most cases during a masterful display for the No. 7 Broncos.

“Adam Reynolds had the ball on a rope,” Cronk said.

“When you have Adam Reynolds’ high-level skill to dictate terms. We thought the Broncos should defend well and Adam Reynolds should be the best player on the court. They did exactly those two things. He was exceptional.

INJURED TOMMY TURBO GROUNDED IN MANLY HORROR SHOW

Manly is becoming a true Jekyll and Hyde team in 2022 and an injured Tom Trbojevic is a worrying sign for the men of the Northern Beaches.

To his credit, Trbojevic still had 98 yards even though he was clearly injured, but he had just two tackle busts to go with two errors and no tries or line-breaking involvement.

Cooper Cronk noted that Trbojevic doesn’t watch himself and Manly always struggles when he’s not at his best.

“He was just a little uncomfortable,” Cronk said.

“He only had three points in the first half. He crossed the backfield a few times.

“But you can see on his face that he doesn’t feel comfortable. He doesn’t accelerate into the backfield like he normally does.

“He doesn’t break tackles and break them.”

Benji Marshall thinks Trbojevic is struggling to use his strength as he lacks the power in his legs to produce his brilliant running game.

“He just doesn’t look 100 percent,” Marshall said.

“He just doesn’t attack the line with speed and rhythm. When you lack power in the legs, it’s hard to start.

However, if Manly continues to defend as badly as he did against the Broncos, no matter if Trbojevic is at the top of his game, they won’t challenge the top teams in September, if they get there.

HAT-TRICK HERO A MANDATORY SIGNATURE FOR BRONCOS

Broncos winger Selwyn Cobbo steps into the frame for his Maroons debut and adds zeros to his next contract with every performance.

Cobbo had 183 yards, two tackle busts and three tries in a performance that will only give the eight clubs chasing his signature more impetus to break the bank for him.

Michael Ennis believes Cobbo is closing in on a Queensland shirt, despite being just 19 as he took his try tally to seven in 2022.

“Reuben Garrick against this young star and what a superstar he is young Selwyn Cobbo,” Ennis said after Cobbo opened the scoring for the night.

“A precise kick from Reynolds and it was Selwyn Cobbo who landed the first for Brisbane.

“He’s on a trial run at the moment, the young star.

“We talk about him so much. A potential Maroons jersey to come.

Cobbo’s best moment was a brilliant interception and a downfield try that would have blown the roof off Suncorp Stadium if he had one.

“Nobody’s gonna stop it, they’ll get up and shout it home,” Warren Smith said.

“Cobbo has a hat-trick. Adam Reynolds, Selwyn Cobbo and 40,000 screaming Broncos fans. The first hat-trick of his career and it will not be his last this supreme 19-year-old.

Ennis was impressed with the athleticism and skill of Cobbo, who has the speed and skill to reach the heights of Latrell Mitchell, the man he was compared to from a young age.

“They’re going to drive her crazy at Suncorp,” Ennis said.

“Selwyn Cobbo steals the show. He just rips it out of the air. It’s brilliant.

“Dylan Walker sends the ball to Garrick and Selwyn Cobbo takes it the full length of the pitch.

“Selwyn Cobbo what an athlete. What a player. They can’t let him go to the Broncos.
