LIFE BEHIND (HANDLE) BARS. Josh Rizzo starts The Nxrth to share his love of cycling with the local cycling community. (Image submitted)

Whether you’re an avid cyclist or just starting out, a new cycling blog – The Nxrth – aims to provide insight into all things cycling in the woods of northern Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, thanks to a resident of Eau Claire.

“I want to build a community that is 100% focused on our backyard adventures,” said creator Josh Rizzo. “There are millions of websites that deal with cycling, but they all cover the whole country. Every once in a while they’ll cover a big event in Wisconsin or Minnesota, but there’s so much going on here. There are so many beautiful places; there are incredible events; we have world class trails and wilderness areas. There’s so much to say about the Northwoods.”

I want to build a community that is 100% focused on our backyard adventures.

The Nxrth will primarily focus on gravel biking, fat biking and bikepacking, which Rizzo says are the most important parts of the adventure cycling family. The blog features features such as upcoming events and Ride Reports, including drone footage of recent routes.

“I love the freedom that bikes provide,” Rizzo said. “I ride my bike everywhere, so I don’t have to plan any exercise. I don’t go to the gym. It’s just integrated into my life.

Rizzo will share stories and photos from the many trips he has planned this year, such as the Fat Bike Birkie in March, an annual summer bike trip and a 100-mile gravel race in October.

“Think outside the box, grab a friend,” suggests Rizzo. “Once you get off the main road in the Northwoods, our tri-states have tons of beautiful gravel roads perfect for biking adventures.”
