Leicester 1-2 Everton: Final | Pickford’s saves earn the points!

Full time thoughts – What an amazing performance for the Blues, putting in the hard work and for a man they all deserved the win today. Only Everton’s first away win since late August, can you believe that? !

Craig Pawson blows the final whistle, Everton have won!! The Toffees are out of the relegation zone!! Blue smoke bombs go off, roving support carried the Blues to a huge, huge, huge away win.

90+3′ – Rondon receives a foul on Fofana who is cautioned. This should see the clock.

90+2′ – New center and Castagne takes the lead, Pickford falls on it.

90+1′ – Gordon controls the ball in Leicester’s half and is fouled! The Blues will slow down the clock even more.

90′ – Three minutes to add! High cross in the box that Pickford retrieves and falls on!

85 ‘ – Doucoure with a bad pass and Leicester have the ball in return. Can we hold on?!

82′ – Another cross and Barnes puts his head on it, flashes just wide, phew!! Everton need to defend better.

80′ – Daka goes out and old friend Ademola Lookman is on.
Another shot from range, and Iheanacho’s shot bounces just past Pickford but he collects safely with Vardy hovering for the rebound.

75 ‘ – Gordon cut by Evans just off the goal line, almost like a small corner. Gordon cannot clear the first man and Leicester clear.
Tielemans shoots from afar, deflected but straight on Pickford. Leeds at ten took one away from Arsenal.

73′ – Luck! Gordon finds Richy in the box, much like the goal he scored at Goodison, but he’s blocked and appears to come off a handful from Leicester, and Everton want a penalty but nothing to do. VAR check confirms Pawson’s no-call.
Salomon Rondon replaces Gray who gets a big hand from away and home support.

71 ‘ – Another massive save from the Everton goalkeeper, this time on a deflected shot from Barnes. The corner is deep and at Vardy but Coleman can clear it.

68′ – PICKFORD AGAIN! The deep cross is directed towards the goal, Barnes tries to stab it and the goalkeeper is cleverly crossed to push it away for a corner.
The corner is deep, missed by Barnes, and somehow cuts through a number of blue shirts. What a performance again from Pickford.

66′ – Gray ran away with the ball and shot down, Everton were lucky to get the foul as they had it away.
Mykolenko appears to have fired something and comes off, Jonjoe Kenny is now on. Meanwhile, Jamie Vardy is for the hosts.

64′ – Superb save! Mendy loops a great shot from Everton just after a corner, he goes into the far post and Jordan Pickford recovers it with his right hand, brilliant! The next corner is also clear.

57 ‘ – Everything is not going Leicester’s way, the Blues hold the ball and move it without real pressure, but at least it slows down the clock. A shot from Gray from afar, but it’s over. Still 2-0 at Arsenal in London.

52′ – Iwobi in space and tries to find Doucoure who rushes in the middle but Leicester cut and counter, Iwobi does very well to come back and defend.
Now Gray breaks in and Richy finds Gordon in space, bad first touch and a defender comes in to block the shot.

49′ – Evans meets Richy on the right of Everton. Gray to put the free kick in the area, cleared. Iwobi comes back and Richy goes down and wants a penalty! Nothing to do from the referee, I haven’t seen a replay yet.

46′ – The second half is on. Harvey Barnes replaced Ayoze Perez.
Mendy hits Gordon from behind and is the game’s first booking.

Half-time thoughts – Everton really need to tighten up at the back as they now have the lead like they did at Burnley but really need to improve their communication.

45+3′ – We arrive at half-time without too many incidents, Everton lead 2-1. Leeds trail 2-0 and the Blues are out of the relegation zone.

45′ – Everton just have to hold on here, around three minutes to add.

43′ – A few chances for the Blues to make a concerted break, but they couldn’t find the right pass.
Gordon shot down, the referee makes no foul but now Iwobi gets tangled up with Dewsbury-Hall, and the Leicester player is injured. It’s bad for the youngster who has been a joy to watch this season. Looks like an ankle problem, but he’s back now.

38 ‘ – Communication problems at the back will condemn the Blues here. No one talks to anyone and now Holgate and Keane are confused. What is happening?!

35′ – There was a moment of silence for a few minutes, but it came back at breakneck speed. Kudos to Leicester for keeping that going given they’ve been playing two games a week for some time now.
Everton are in a middle block, not pressing too high and simply handing over the midfield to the hosts.

30′ – Everton in the lead again!! The Blues win a corner down the right, Gray puts it in the box, Richy’s header is only blocked by Schmeichel and Holgate reacts fastest to nod!! 2-1 Blues!
The Foxes are weak on set pieces and the Blues took advantage of that there.

28 ‘ – Prolonged possession of the Blues in the opposing half of the field, but they find no opening.

23′ – As expected, Leicester control possession, the Blues sit in their 5-4-1 and look to hit the hosts in their 3-5-2 on the block.

18′ – Bad news for the Blues here, Mina is down injured and out, Michael Keane is in his place.
Arsenal lead Leeds 2-0 now.

15′ – Amartey takes a crack from over 30 yards, just over the bar, Pickford had that covered.

12′ – Disaster! Mina throws a high ball, then Coleman runs into the big man, both go down and all of a sudden Daka is all alone with Pickford, and he’s not mistaken, it’s 1-1. Arghhhhhhh.

10 ‘ – Doucoure launches a counter-attack then recovers his foot on a ball from Gray in the area, he twists through Schmeichel, hits the post and the goalkeeper jumps on it before Doucs can continue! So close.

8′ – Ooh! Iheanacho stands inches from a cross that Pickford gratefully collects.

6′ – WHAT A SENSATIONAL GOAL!!! Mykolenko!!!!!
Iwobi makes amends with a cross from the right touchline just outside the box and Mykolenko strikes beautifully on the volley, no chance for Schmeichel to even get his hands on it and the ball nestles in the far corner low !
Everton lead 1-0 and news from the Emirates is that Arsenal also lead Leeds from the start.

4′ – Iheanacho is now behind the baseline and Pickford has to make another save, this time offside. Everton are not settling into this game, much like the last time they faced the Foxes.

3′ – Phew!! Killer back pass from Iwobi and Delph is unable to control, Daka is able to round Pickford and Mina slips in to make a saving clearance!!
The corner is in the penalty area and goes a long way.

1′ – In progress at King Power!

As promised, Everton’s 3,000+ fans are making their voices heard.

The lineups came out and Frank Lampard stuck with the same XI that dumped a win last week. The Foxes will be in a 4-2-3-1, with James Maddison out.

Everton

Leicester City

Five games to go for Everton, and with just about everything going on since Saturday’s fixtures, the Blues are desperate for points. Watford’s relegation was confirmed and Burnley slid to a heavy home defeat, and now the Toffees have two games in hand against the Clarets, but all of that will count for nothing if they don’t start making them count by picking up points.

Today’s Opponents Leicester City were knocked out of the Europa Conference League in the semi-final in disappointing circumstances on Thursday, so it will be interesting to see how much change Brendan Rodgers brings and indeed with nothing to play for in their motivation.

When the two teams last met just a few weeks ago, the Blues were coming off a ten-day break and looking flat as the Foxes eased off the press and spun the rings around their hosts at Goodison Park.

Everton’s away form has been utterly awful – the worst in the league in fact – so Frank Lampard will have to find a way to channel the aggression and intensity we saw at Anfield and then on the weekend. last end against Chelsea at the King Power Stadium for the Blues to have no chance of surviving the fall.

The two teams have just met at Goodison Park towards the end of April in a rescheduled game, with the match ending 1-1. The Foxes had started strong and scored early, and threatened to seize another handful of missing chances, but the Blues also had their own scoring opportunities with Richarlison guilty of a few big misses. The Brazilian made up for his waste in the dying minutes of the game with a well-taken equalizer in a frantic finish where either side could have snatched all three points.

The last time the Toffees went to the King Power Stadium was in December 2020 when the Blues came away with a fine 2-0 victory behind closed doors, with Richarlison and Mason Holgate grabbing the goals. Richy particularly enjoys playing against the Foxes and has scored five goals in seven league appearances against Leicester.
