Leicester 1-2 Everton: Final | Pickford’s saves earn the points!

Full time thoughts – What an amazing performance for the Blues, putting in the hard work and for a man they all deserved the win today. Only Everton’s first away win since late August, can you believe that? !

90+1′ – Gordon controls the ball in Leicester’s half and is fouled! The Blues will slow down the clock even more.

73′ – Luck! Gordon finds Richy in the box, much like the goal he scored at Goodison, but he’s blocked and appears to come off a handful from Leicester, and Everton want a penalty but nothing to do. VAR check confirms Pawson’s no-call.

71 ‘ – Another massive save from the Everton goalkeeper, this time on a deflected shot from Barnes. The corner is deep and at Vardy but Coleman can clear it.

68′ – PICKFORD AGAIN! The deep cross is directed towards the goal, Barnes tries to stab it and the goalkeeper is cleverly crossed to push it away for a corner.
The corner is deep, missed by Barnes, and somehow cuts through a number of blue shirts. What a performance again from Pickford.

66′ – Gray ran away with the ball and shot down, Everton were lucky to get the foul as they had it away.
Mykolenko appears to have fired something and comes off, Jonjoe Kenny is now on. Meanwhile, Jamie Vardy is for the hosts.

64′ – Superb save! Mendy loops a great shot from Everton just after a corner, he goes into the far post and Jordan Pickford recovers it with his right hand, brilliant! The next corner is also clear.

Half-time thoughts – Everton really need to tighten up at the back as they now have the lead like they did at Burnley but really need to improve their communication.

45+3′ – We arrive at half-time without too many incidents, Everton lead 2-1. Leeds trail 2-0 and the Blues are out of the relegation zone.

45′ – Everton just have to hold on here, around three minutes to add.

43′ – A few chances for the Blues to make a concerted break, but they couldn’t find the right pass.
Gordon shot down, the referee makes no foul but now Iwobi gets tangled up with Dewsbury-Hall, and the Leicester player is injured. It’s bad for the youngster who has been a joy to watch this season. Looks like an ankle problem, but he’s back now.

10 ‘ – Doucoure launches a counter-attack then recovers his foot on a ball from Gray in the area, he twists through Schmeichel, hits the post and the goalkeeper jumps on it before Doucs can continue! So close.

8′ – Ooh! Iheanacho stands inches from a cross that Pickford gratefully collects.

Iwobi makes amends with a cross from the right touchline just outside the box and Mykolenko strikes beautifully on the volley, no chance for Schmeichel to even get his hands on it and the ball nestles in the far corner low !
Everton lead 1-0 and news from the Emirates is that Arsenal also lead Leeds from the start.

4′ – Iheanacho is now behind the baseline and Pickford has to make another save, this time offside. Everton are not settling into this game, much like the last time they faced the Foxes.

3′ – Phew!! Killer back pass from Iwobi and Delph is unable to control, Daka is able to round Pickford and Mina slips in to make a saving clearance!!
The corner is in the penalty area and goes a long way.

Five games to go for Everton, and with just about everything going on since Saturday’s fixtures, the Blues are desperate for points. Watford’s relegation was confirmed and Burnley slid to a heavy home defeat, and now the Toffees have two games in hand against the Clarets, but all of that will count for nothing if they don’t start making them count by picking up points.

Today’s Opponents Leicester City were knocked out of the Europa Conference League in the semi-final in disappointing circumstances on Thursday, so it will be interesting to see how much change Brendan Rodgers brings and indeed with nothing to play for in their motivation.

When the two teams last met just a few weeks ago, the Blues were coming off a ten-day break and looking flat as the Foxes eased off the press and spun the rings around their hosts at Goodison Park.

Everton’s away form has been utterly awful – the worst in the league in fact – so Frank Lampard will have to find a way to channel the aggression and intensity we saw at Anfield and then on the weekend. last end against Chelsea at the King Power Stadium for the Blues to have no chance of surviving the fall.

The two teams have just met at Goodison Park towards the end of April in a rescheduled game, with the match ending 1-1.
