Instagram rolls out updates to combat abuse • iPhone Canada Blog

Instagram just rolled out a handful of updates to protect its users from abuse, including the ability to block other accounts a user may already have, making it harder for them to interact on Instagram again. .

Since launching Hidden Words last year, Instagram says more than one in five people with large audiences have enabled the feature to automatically filter out harmful content from their comments and message requests.

Instagram is currently testing automatic wordsearch activation for Creator accounts. Anyone will still be able to turn these settings on or off at any time and create a personalized list with additional words, phrases, and emojis.

Some new feature updates include:

  • Extend hidden words to cover story replies, so offensive replies from people you don’t follow will be sent to your Hidden Requests folder and you never have to see them.
  • Support for new languages including Farsi, Turkish, Russian, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil.
  • Improve our filtering to catch and hide intentional misspellings of offensive terms, for example, if someone uses a “1” instead of an “i”.
  • Added new terms to filter message requests that may contain scams or spam. We will start doing this in English in some countries, with more languages and countries coming soon.

According to Instagram, nudges can reduce the number of hurtful remarks on Instagram, which is why it introduces more.

Now, a new notification will encourage users to pause and think about how they want to react before responding to an offensive comment. These nudges are now available for people with apps set to English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Chinese, or Arabic
