Heat and humidity complete the weekend

This afternoon expect high temperatures of around 90 with heat index values in the upper 90s – feeling like 100 in a few spots. Just like Saturday, a few showers and irregular thunderstorms are to be expected. Not everyone sees rain, but those who do can expect a fairly good downpour for a few minutes. Overall chance of rain is around 30% for today’s coverage.

The upcoming work week will have some changes, especially in the middle or at the end of the week. On Monday and Tuesday, with mostly sunny skies, we expect highs in the low to mid 90s. Heat Index values in the low 90s above 100. The chance of rain is expected to be relatively low, with just a possible afternoon shower or spotted storm, mainly Tuesday.

From Wednesday to Thursday, a cool front is approaching from the west. This frontal system will bring showers and thunderstorms late Wednesday through Thursday, bringing temperatures down and, once the front clears the area, lower humidity as well! This weekend and next weekend, we’re talking highs in the 80s.

In the tropics, we have something to see off the coast of Africa. This tropical wave (known as the East African waves to meteorologists) has just made its way off the coast since Sunday morning. Some models want to develop it by Tuesday, and the NHC gives it a 40% chance of doing so. It has a difficult route to navigate, as dry air and wind shear could impact its development. We’ll keep an eye on it, but nothing to worry about so far.

Elsewhere in the tropics, everything is calm. We’re heading into the active season, so expect to hear more waves and tropical systems in the months ahead.

I hope you are having a good weekend!
