38′ – DCL places a cross in the box and Andersen concedes a corner. Low de Gray, in another bend. Perfect height this time with all the Everton giants in the box, but Palace clears and Iwobi’s volley is wild.
35 ‘ – New collision, this time in the Everton area. Andersen and Myko took the ball, with the Blues defender pulling out of the challenge at the last minute and they both fall in a heap. Strange decision by the referee after whistling, choosing to give Palace the ball lost in their own half? !

Everton face Crystal Palace with just four games remaining before the first World Cup winter break. Much of the goodwill from the start of the season evaporated after three straight losses to top-six teams. While that in and of itself isn’t unexpected, it’s how these losses have come about that has been most frustrating. The Blues have managed two shots on goal in this trio of games, and their complete inability to put concerted pressure on the opposition’s goal will have given Frank Lampard plenty to think about ahead of this next stretch of games – Palace, Fulham, Leicester City and then AFC Bournemouth twice in five days, first in the League Cup and then in the league.
The Eagles have had a mixed bag of results to start the season and sit just three points clear of the Blues. In fact, a two-goal win for the hosts will see them leapfrog the visitors, but they will need to muster a lot of spirit from the fans and players from the last time the two sides met here to achieve that.

The last time the Blues played Palace was a very important occasion, with the home side rallying from a two-goal deficit at the break to come back with three goals in the second stanza to snatch three points and secure the survival of the Premier League. The winner, courtesy of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s diving header five minutes from time, led to total pandemonium at Goodison Park with two separate pitch invasions of screaming fans. Lampard’s side will need to channel some of that energy today to get out of their slump.
