47′ – Gordon finds Myko, his cross is cut off for a corner by Zouma. Poor corner of Myko, cleared for another. Gray will take it now, on Onana and clear.
Good passing movement from the Hammers, the ball comes to Bowen in the box and his volley is over. Phew.

46′ – The same 22 players we started with are still on the pitch.

Half-time thoughts – Everton are doing fairly decently with and without the ball, but need to do better in the attacking third to create more scoring chances.

45 + 1 ‘- It will only be the minute or so added here, and there is the half-time whistle, 0-0 at Goodison Park.

43′ – Patterson’s gift sees West Ham through but Tarky slips in to clear the danger.
Now Gana blocks a cross from a corner, which Everton partially clears, West Ham guard their big players and Zouma finally gets a header on a ball that Begovic can take.

41′ – Gordon bursts in through Coufal on the left, free kick. Incoming Gray Inswinger, delightfully through the six yard box but just a little high and no one can connect.
Gordon comes back to prevent a counter, then wins a throw-in from Fornals with a big tackle, the fans are very happy.

39′ – Maupay gets a corner on the right. A bit of header tennis in the box before Fabianski recovered as the rain started again.

35′ – Both teams were much better at winning the ball back than they were at keeping it.

31 ‘ – Half an hour passed and not yet a clear opportunity for the Blues. 52% possession for Everton. They certainly get crosses into the box, but it has always been a Hammers header first.

28′ – Patterson’s cross is cut and Hammers can break in, Coady booked for bringing down Antonio as he swung away from him at the halfway line.
Now Myko is lucky not to be booked as he pulls Paqueta back. It was mean. Coufal’s free kick was mediocre.

25′ – Coady with another perfectly timed save, this time ahead of Antonio. Again, the Blues have a chance to counter but lose the ball too easily with cross passes.

20′ – Hammers corner on their left, Cresswell to resume, Onana clears for another. On an Everton header, another corner on the other side now. Partly cleared by Begovic, Cresswell shot blocked by Gana, another corner on the left.
Coady’s clearance finds a streaky Gray, he beats a few men before he is cleared for a throw-in.

18′ – West Ham counter on pace and with Tarkowski taken out of position, Coady pulls off a fantastic interception to deny a dangerous chance. The visitors had a little more ball in the last few minutes.

14′ – Gana catches Bowen as he finds Fornals, with referee Michael Oliver playing the advantage there.

12′ – Everton’s press gives the Hammers fits and they lose the ball again, and Gueye is fouled by Paqueta, the Brazilian is frustrated.

9′ – Gray gains some space and his cross at the top of the penalty area demands a throw-in.
Now Gordon wins a corner on the right, cleared but Gray is fouled by Paqueta and it’s a free kick on the right, very deep. Gray to take, over the wall Onana meets him but is on his way down when he makes contact and the header is over.

7 ‘ – Soucek with a gift to Maupay and he finds Iwobi running in the box, but Fabianski quickly leaves the line to ward off the danger.
Now Mykolenko beaten by Bowen to the touchline and captain of the day Coady cuts the cross and the ball goes just wide of the post, phew! The corner is clear.

6′ – Everton pass the ball early. Lots of sideways movement as they probe the Hammers defense.

3′ – A few loose touches for Patterson gave the visitors the ball in the Everton half and they have a corner now Gray clears well.

A minute’s silence to commemorate the queen’s passing is usually well marked, except for a few miscreants who were quickly shouted out.

No Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the squad, but the midfielder we all dream of is happening with Idrissa Gueye, Amadou Onana and Alex Iwobi. They will face Declan Rice and Thomas Soucek, with new signing Lucas Paqueta getting his first start for the Hammers.

Everton today face West Ham still looking for their first win of the season on the seventh time. Frank Lampard’s side haven’t been downright bad in too many games this season but have either struggled to stay ahead or been able to gain ground but haven’t shown enough quality in front of goal to ensure a result.

However, with Neal Maupay settling in and now Dominic Calvert-Lewin close to a return, the Blues have a real chance to start scoring some goals but will come up against a West Ham United who have started the season poorly on their own.

David Moyes’ side have been lackluster in the league themselves, although they have managed to keep their Europa Conference League campaign on track so far.
