What you need to make these adorable heart shaped waffles

These waffles only use 3 food ingredients! In addition, you will have the following items to complete them.

  • Regular-sized Stroopwafels (found in the cookie or coffee/tea aisle)
  • Melting candies or chocolate chips. (I used blanks)
  • Valentine’s Day themed candy sprinkles.
  • Heart-shaped cookie cutter, 2 ½ -3 inches wide
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Parchment
  • Hob

This is not a sweet recipe. Buy as many stoopwafels and lollipop sticks as needed for the final tally. As much or as little as you want. If you are preparing a large quantity, you may need more fondant or chocolate.

How to Make Heart Waffles for Valentine’s Day

Step 1

Start by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

2nd step

Place a stroopwafel on a table or cutting board lined with parchment paper.

Using your heart-shaped cookie cutter, press down on the stroopwafel until the cookie cutter has pierced the stroopwafel right through. Peel off the excess stroopwafel from the outside and take out the heart-shaped stroopwafel.

Place the stroopwafel hearts on the baking sheet. Throw away the excess bits (or eat them! Or, how about dunking them in your coffee).

Step 4

Once you have as many heart-shaped stroopwafels as you’d like, place a small amount of fondant candies in a bowl and melt in the microwave at 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.

Step 5

When the fondant candy is smooth, place a spoonful on the back of the stroopwafel and place a lollipop stick on it. Cover the rest of the lollipop stick with the fondant candy so that the stick is no longer visible.

Once all of the stroopwafel hearts have lollipop sticks attached, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes for the candy to harden.

Step 6

In large bowl, microwave remaining fondant in 30 second intervals, stirring until smooth.

Step 7

In the melted candy, dip the stroopwafel or take a butter knife and apply the melted candy to the front of the stroopwafel.

Once coated with fondant candy or melted chocolate, apply your favorite sprinkles.

Important. You need to move quickly so the fondant candy doesn’t harden before the sprinkles have been added.

Step 9

When you have dipped and sprinkled all the waffle hearts, return the baking sheet to the refrigerator for another 10 minutes.

Step 10

Once the fondant candies are completely hardened, you can either serve them immediately at room temperature or wrap them as a gift. You can get small cell phone gift bags and ribbons from the craft store.

Here are the finished heart waffles! You can do them all the same or do them all differently. Aren’t they cute for Valentine’s Day?!!!

Remarks

• Stroopwafels usually come in a 10.94 of 8 box. They can be found in the cookie or coffee/tea aisle at the grocery store. They can also be found online.
• I suggest getting the regular size stroopwafels (they fit on top of a standard size coffee mug). Mini stroopwafels are cute but they’re too small to make a waffle.
