Carlton Davis Talks Competitive Fire

June 8, 2022

It’s a new day in Tampa Bay for the cornerback room at One Buc Palace.

Bucs No. 1 cornerback Carlton Davis was speaking to Joe and the rest of the local media today and Joe had to ask about the major change in cornerback mood this season.

It’s Logan Ryan, the versatile and savvy 31-year-old veteran signed in free agency.

For the first time in years, the Bucs now have some serious competition in the room in the form of a consummate veteran.

Do you feel that competition, Carlton?

“Logan is one of those players that you can plug anywhere on defense, he can play corner, safety, nickel,” Davis began. “I would say there’s more competition in that sense within the DB group, because Logan is strong in every position he’s in. So it just brings out the best in everyone. Obviously, when the competition is coming, the best get the job, but, you know, the fact that he can compete for every spot just makes you want to, you know, stick to your P’s and Q’s because he’s coming.

Jo love the competitive element. The Bucs won a Super Bowl with Davis, Jamel Dean and Sean Murphy-Bunting, but they were basically gifted jobs this season and last year.

Now Dean and Murphy-Bunting have contract years with Ryan in the mix. And he’s also within a contract year, in addition to being known for his burning thirst for greatness and another Super Bowl ring.

Competition should make this group sharper.
