Capitals take on Bruins as AJF returns to roster

The Washington Capitals face the Boston Bruins tonight for the first time since the Bs beat them 7-3 at home last Monday. Axel-Jonsson Fjallby will replace Daniel Sprong on the third line as Peter Laviolette opts to go with a more two-way player.

The Capitals will be without Dmitry Orlov (suspension), John Carlson (COVID), TJ Oshie (injury) and Conor Sheary (COVID) for tonight’s game. Anthony Mantha remains on long-term injured reserve.

Vitek Vanecek will make his third start in the last four games as he attempts to claim the position of top goaltender for the Capitals.

Tonight’s Caps-Bruins game is streaming only and can be watched on ESPN+.

I’m pretty sure the play-by-play guy doesn’t know who Michal Kempny is.

Evgeny Kuznetsov scores without an angle, flies over Bruins fans. 1-0 WSH.

The goal is Evgeny’s 13th goal of the season. He now has a six-game point streak (2g, 5a).

Flap, flap, flap away.

David Pastrnak equalized 50 seconds later. 1-1.

The goal is Pastrnak’s 17th of the season. Martin Fehervary and Nick Jensen looked confused in their coverage and lost Pastrnak in net for a layup.

So. Many. Injuries.

Evgeny Kuznetsov owns an own goal. 3-2 Bruins

36 seconds later, Nicklas Backstrom scores his first goal of the season. Game of equality again. 3-3.

Charlie McAvoy scores on a late PP to give the Bruins a 4-3 lead.

Nic Dowd took a triggering penalty that gave Boston the win.
