Blog Spot a deadly shootout in downtown Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WJW) – It was a terrifying moment at a downtown Cleveland business on Carnegie Avenue as witnesses say a woman opened fire in a deadly confrontation with the owner on Monday night.

An employee, who hid for safety in a bathroom, called 911 and whispered, “Blog spot in downtown Cleveland, shots were fired.”

“Why are you whispering? Asked the dispatcher.

“I’m hiding in the bathroom, they shot,” replied the man.

Witnesses say trouble at Blog Spot began at 5 p.m. when the woman started arguing with owner Thomas McDonald, 33.

They say she then pulled out a gun and started shooting inside the business.

The dispatcher asked the employee who was hiding in the bathroom, “How many shots did you hear? ”

He replied, “Twenty. Hurry up.”

Investigators say McDonald fled through the back door into an alley behind the bar, but the woman followed him outside and shot him several times before running away.

The owner of a nearby business told a 911 dispatcher: “Looks like he was shot in the head.”

McDonald leaves behind three children and his fiance, who was his partner in the Blog Spot.

Police are now trying to determine McDonald’s relationship to the woman who killed herself, and what may have been the motive for the murder.

In an effort to identify the woman, homicide detectives examine video from surveillance cameras inside and outside the salon and surrounding businesses.
