America’s Got Talent Episode 20 Recap: Qualifier 5 Results [LIVE BLOG]
Season 17 of “America’s Got Talent” is halfway through the first series of live shows – the “Qualifiers”. In this second round, 55 acts were divided into five groups for five weeks of performances, all in the hope of qualifying for the final. While the judges of the series Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel are always there to offer their support and criticism of acts, the power is out of their hands and rests with the vote of all of America. Only two acts from each of the five qualifying groups will win America and earn a spot in the “AGT” final.
Qualifiers 5 aired on September 6 and featured performances by: Sofia’s Golden Buzzer, the dance group Mayyasteenage contemporary dancer Max Ostlerpole dancing Kristy Sellarsacrobatic group urbancrew (Southern Flyers)singers Aubrey Burchell and KristenCruzgroup of boys Travis Japanknife throwers Blade 2 Bladeactor Jordan Conleyyo-yo performer Shu Takada and magician/rapper Mervant Vera.

8:01 p.m. – As mentioned last night, Terry Crews confirmed that at the end of tonight’s show, the judges will select four qualifying acts to participate in an instant save to join the other acts in the finals.
8:11 p.m. – For the first announcement of the night, Terry revealed the five acts that won enough public votes to stay in contention for a spot in the final. First, Terry said KristenCruz that she was part of this group, but Travis Japan and Aubrey Burchell not.
8:16 p.m. – Then Terry revealed that Kristy Sellars gained enough support to move forward, but Shu Takada and Blade 2 Blade not.
8:18 p.m. – In the following announcement, Terry left urban crew know they moved on, but broke the news to Max Ostler that he didn’t.
8:19 p.m. – From the last group, Terry announced that the two Mayyas and Mervant Vera were still in contention, but Jordan Conley was not.
8:27 p.m. – Without wasting time, Terry moved on to announce the top three for the week: Mayyas, Mervant Vera and Kristy Sellars, which meant that it was the end of the road for urbancrew and Kristen Cruz.
8:36 p.m. – Next, Terry revealed the two acts heading directly to the finale: Mayyas and Kristy Sellars.
8:46 p.m. – To give the live audience enough time to vote for their pick, Terry opened the instant save. Each judge had to select an act to participate in this vote. Simon named Players’ ChorusSofia chose ventriloquist Celia MunozHeidi chose her Golden Buzzer number Lily Meolaand Howie chose the comedian Don McMillan.
8:50 p.m. – While the Instant Save vote was open, we were treated to a preview of the cast of the upcoming musical & Juliet written by pop songwriter and producer Max Martin.
8:59 p.m. – With all of the finalists on stage, Terry revealed that the act joining them based on the Instant Save votes is Celia Munoz!
