The league’s new year begins at 4 p.m. ET on March 16, which means free agent signings can be made official afterward. The first round of the 2022 NFL Draft begins April 28 on ESPN.

The needy Atlanta Falcons shouldn’t be big spenders in free agency. Instead, general manager Terry Fontenot will try to be efficient and seek bargain-type deals, similar to what they did last year with Cordarrelle Patterson (one year, $3 million). Give the player a one-year contract, a chance to prove himself and, in turn, earn big bucks with the Falcons or another team down the road.

Don’t expect a splash this year, but think of plenty of one- or two-year contracts that will help Atlanta reach its cap and give players the opportunity to have expanded roles.

Here’s a breakdown of every 2022 NFL free agent signing from the Falcons, and how each will impact the upcoming season:

Koo has agreed to re-sign with the Falcons for five years and $24.25 million with $11.5 million guaranteed, according to a source.

What this means: The Falcons could have just offered Koo and taken a chance, but instead the team decided to make a massive commitment to one of the most consistent kickers in the NFL. Koo has made 92.6% of his field goals over the past three seasons with the Falcons.

What is the risk: Not much, although with any kicker a series of missed kicks can be a problem. A lot of kickers have been through this in their careers, and with the deal the Falcons gave Koo, they should probably overcome any potential issues there. But Koo hasn’t shown any signs of being in that position since arriving in Atlanta.
